Why a new bot?

If you are a discord server owner, I am sure you must have come across a point in time where you have been overwhelmed choosing between which bot to use for suggestions.

• Currently, most of the bots, or some make-believe bots, use outdated approach to suggestions (a combination of embeds and emojis). I would be employing the latest views and buttons to make the process as simple as possible.
• Moreover, most of them employ a manual-only approach, i.e. your Moderators/Staff members have to manually parse through dozens (if not hundreds) of suggestions to shortlist them and make it work.
• No transparency—once the ticket/suggestion is raised, most of the bots stop helping you there, the moderation staff have to manually communicate the outcome to the audience. OtterBot is wayyyy different; and it is about to keep evolving as per your suggestions 😉 Read the suggest command section below to know more.

As you can see in this screenshot, the bot uses the up-to-date modals and views approach.

Perks of using this approach

1. You can upvote or downvote a suggestion by clicking the respective buttons. Yes, it’s as simple as that.
2. Even though the bot uses auto-moderation (in some cases, explained later below), the staff can manually override this process using the Consider button.
3. Intuitive—your discord members need to have an easy life. There are already so many bots with a plethora of commands and use-cases. Let’s keep it simple here, shall we?
4. All the information in one place—I am not sure why other bots have not tried this yet, but OtterBot helps you keep all the relative information under on hood. You can see fields like author , upvoters and downvoters to name a few (other fields explained later below).

Setting up OtterBot for Suggestions

Prerequisites

Before setting up OtterBot Suggestions, there are just two pre-requisites at the moment—

1. 2 channels (1 x public suggestion channel and 1 x moderator suggestions channel)
   1. Your members can use the public channel to raise suggestions—all the messages and command responses here are ephemeral i.e. only the user who runs the command would be able to see the responses (except the actual suggestion that pops up, if everything works fine 🤞).
   2. If the auto-moderation fires up or the suggestion has been taken into the consideration process manually, the suggestion is passed on to the moderation suggestion channel for further discussion.
2. 1 moderation/staff role which will have the privilege to override the consideration process manually
   1. Only your staff members would be able to consider a suggestion manually. CHOOSE THEM WISELY AND KEEP THEM SAFE!

Setup Process

• To setup the bot simply run the slash command setup_suggestions on your discord server. Please note, you would need to have Adimistrator privilege to run this.
• It would ask you 3 parameter values—staff_role, pub_channel (public suggestions channel) and mod_channel (moderator suggestions channel).
